Professor John Holloway

John Holloway is originally from New Zealand where he graduated from Otago University and undertook his PhD in the Malaghan Institute studying the genetic basis of asthma. He is now Associate Vice President (Interdisciplinary Research) and Professor of Allergy and Respiratory Genetics in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton, UK and his research program focuses on genetics, epigenetics and functional genomics of allergic and respiratory diseases such as asthma and COPD. As Associate Vice-President (Interdisciplinary Research) at the University of Southampton he co-leads the institutions interdisciplinary research programme including sandpit events, a pump-priming grant scheme and interdisciplinary research institutes to encourage and support researchers from different disciplines to work together to solve societal challenges. He also has roles across the institution in sustainability, both in how we do research and how we can use our research to address sustainability issues in society and as Co-lead for Research Culture.
