Professor Ben Davis receives award for Excellence in Medicinal Chemistry

The Israel Chemical Society have announced that Professor Ben Davis will receive the 2025 MCS-ICS (Medicinal Chemistry Section of the Israel Chemical Society) Award for Excellence in Medicinal Chemistry.

The Israel Chemical Society is dedicated to advancing pure and applied chemistry both nationally and internationally, covering all fields of chemistry including organic, inorganic, analytical and theoretical.  The international award, in memory of Barry Cohen, was awarded to Professor Davis for his pioneering methods to manipulate the chemical structure of proteins and carbohydrates, interrogating biological functions and mechanisms of proteins and carbohydrates.

Ben holds a joint appointment between the Rosalind Franklin Institute as Science Director and Challenge lead for Molecular Perturbations: Chemistry Engineering Biology, and the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on innovative chemical methods to understand and manipulate biological molecules, particularly carbohydrates and proteins.

“It’s a very deep honour and a reflection of the work that the wonderful team that I collaborate with and have collaborated with in the past – thank you to them all and to the ICS for noting their contributions.”
Science Director and Challenge Lead

Ben will be awarded the prize in August at the 2025 MCS-ICS meeting.
