The institute’s learning programs range from research-based offerings to leadership and management training programmes for managers and future leaders. Through the Learning and Development team, new hires receive resources to accelerate their integration including access to digital learning and orientation training offerings.

We offer all our employees access to over 150 training courses via the online training platform, iHASCO. The catalogue of currently available courses includes the areas of: Management; Business Compliance; Interpersonal Skills; HR Compliance; Health & Safety.

Through Chaperone, we offer our staff the opportunity to have individual online career consultations with an experienced career consultant on more than 50 different support topics.

“I would recommend booking a career coaching session with Chaperone as it is very personalised to the needs of each individual. The session gave me useful insights into the worlds of academia vs industry and exposed me to other roles that I might be interested in based on the skills that I have.” – Lauren Eyssen, Structural Biology

The Franklin is also an organisational member of the Vitae community, the global leader in the professional and career development of researchers. The Vitae website has a wealth of resources and advice tailored specifically to researchers, working both in academia and beyond, as well as resources for staff supporting the development of researchers. All our staff and students are now eligible for full access to the Vitae website as part of our organisation’s subscription.

In response to the professional and cultural imperative for Franklin researchers to meet and promote the highest standards of research integrity in their work, the Franklin has introduced two new training programmes by Epigeum: Research Integrity 2.0 and Research Integrity for Experienced Researchers. We also offer a comprehensive training programme- Supervising Doctoral Studies, designed to equip both new and more experienced research supervisors with the knowledge, skills, and understanding that are vital to effectively support doctoral candidates’ development into independent researchers.

For our managers and group leaders, we provide a Labs to Leaders programme which focuses on building essential management and leadership skills, within a supportive group and complimented by feedback and coaching to address specific areas.
