Governance

Our structure in brief

The Rosalind Franklin Institute is a Company (11266143) and a Charity (1179810), formed by a Joint Venture Agreement between our members.  We are governed by a Board of non-executive Trustee Directors. The Franklin is reviewed and advised by our Strategic Advisory Board, comprised of leading international academic and industrial experts. Day to day management of the Franklin is delegated by the Board of Trustees to the Leadership Team, who lead major corporate and scientific functions for the Institute.

Our Board of Trustees

Our Board of Trustees has twelve members, which include two trustees nominated by our member community, six independent Trustees, one Senior Independent Trustee, one nominee from UKRI-STFC, the Chair, and the Institute Director.

The Board has three sub-committees who oversee

  • Audit and Risk, which considers finance and risk matters
  • Remuneration (RemCo), which considers people and remuneration matters
  • Nominations (NomCo), which considers board skills and effectiveness, and oversees the recruitment of new Trustees and assists with senior recruitment to the Franklin.

Board observers: UKRI-EPSRC and Diamond Light Source sit as observers to the Board.
