James’ project is focused on interrogating the behaviour of nuclear-encoded mitochondrial proteins implicated in Lewy Body Dementia. The inappropriate signalling of important nuclear-encoded proteins involved in maintaining mitochondrial function and homeostasis may be the basis of mitochondrial aberrations in synucleinopathy disorders. Here, he will use Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM) and super-resolution light microscopy techniques such as Stimulated Emission Depletion (STED) to elucidate the behaviour of key nuclear-encoded mitochondrial proteins which are implicated in such disorders.
James graduated from the University of Warwick with an integrated master’s in Biomedical Science. For his master’s project, he investigated the relationship between genetic polymorphisms within Human papillomavirus and cervical cancer.
