Dr Mohammed Yusuf
Sample Preparation Scientist
Yusuf is a sample preparation scientist for the Franklin. He has extensive experience in preparing and analysing samples for different modalities. At the Franklin, his focus will be to develop the correlative imaging workflow across the wide variety of microscopes available on site. He will specialise in creating Cryo FIB lamella for use in wide field-of-view ptychography studies and will be moving towards the use of graphene for optimisation for in situ liquid cell specimens.
Yusuf received his BSc (HONS) in molecular and cellular biology from the University of Huddersfield, Masters of Research (MRes) in biological sciences from the University of Manchester and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Kent. He has worked in various different universities on many exciting bioimaging projects. This includes determining the 3D spatial organisation and high order structure of chromosomes using serial block face SEM. He has also worked on 3D imaging of cells grown in electrospun scaffolds using X-ray tomography.
